Even King Solomon manifested it, in one of his famous clauses: "I prefer to eat greens with no master above my head than having royal meals with people around burden me". In this year's Salone del Mobile 2019, design abolishes all stylistic restrictions and architectural dogmas and goes unleashed and uncensored. Freedom, diversity, rebellion, courage and the optimism of a good fighter against social and economic uncomformities, the Salone current keeps flowing and strirring all things new in the industry.

Design 4 Food, the central theme of this years edition and other stories from Salone Satellite 2019: The primal human condition is trying to prevail against all odds and the biggest and most talented crowd of young designers drive on the new forces of design in order to recycle, renew, rediscover and simply INVENT, in the age of scarcities. Among the highlights of the exhibition, the French Gwillen brings back the spotlight to the legendary French school in Design, the latter taking a break these last years in general-with the Spanish, the Japanese, the Korean, the Brazilian among others- keeping up steadily with the most impressive presentations in the latest versions of Salone Satellite. Apparently the French representation is back after a prolonged absence in Salone Satellite with some really exciting designers in nano-materials, interiors, textiles and furniture. Gwillen works with marine sediments and transforming them into materials for design and architecture (in photo bellow), with exquisite results. Heirs of Matali Crasset and P. Starck, these young designers just rock the Salone with that French twist we missed so much.

7. 360' Design: The A-List of the TOP Products to note from this years Salone del Mobile 2019: 

- BOXLIKE Red Sofa by Anna von Schewen 4 Articles, smart Meta-Bauhausian furniture solutions- colour and form destined to happy, flexible, interesting and intelligent homes. 

- Plank MIURA stool by Konstantin Grcic- physiotherapist associations should appoint Plank for specialized chairs and stools, this company is just out of this world in terms of design. Comfort, design, geometry, perfection.

- Michael Anastasiades Dining Table light: still remaining the design Prometheus of his generation, the very much copied-out Anastasiades remains as Sui generis as his lighting designs plus his furniture and installations. A true inventor.

- COSTUME sofarmchair by Stefan Diez for Magis. The collaboration produced a very practical, mobile and pliable furniture, transformer too.

- Artemide Pro2 system: Artemide's app presentation is the most elaborate and advanced lighting algorithm right now.

- Enea felt chair prototype. Felt is a material that was massively confronted in this year's Salone, but in this case the cult basque
 studio made an excellent adoptation.

- Pedrali REMIND armchair by Eugeni Quitllet: So classic, so new, so comfy, so pretty.

BACK TO THE FUTURE: SALONE DEL MOBILE 2019, MILAN, ITALY - A PREVIEW

Back to Italy again this April and it is destined to be a great-er that the even greatest years we have experienced! So many things, so little time, here is the List of what we will be up to in this year's Salone:

1. Salone Satellite: the oldest and most important fair out there, created to promote Young Designers this year is upgrading its game; Food and the Design of it and all around it, is the central theme and it aims to focus on the relationship of the two with the slogan FOOD as a DESIGN OBJECT. Joining the chorus of voices calling for what is now a much needed global food revolution in which design, technology and traditional manual skills can come together to tackle the challenges of the future.

2. Euroluce and WorkPlace3.0 will provide us with the patterns and technologies of what is coming up to sooth the troubled millenials: in the first, the sectoral leaders will be presenting intelligent and wireless solutions, cutting edge technology, appliances boasting even more integrated functions such as adaptive intelligence and wireless connectivity, higher performance sensors and systems for regulating the colour and temperature of light. The new exhibition format of Workplace3.0 is a genuine reflection of the social transformation of the workspace into a flexible, permeable and dynamic area, ripe for professional interaction and engagement with other day-to-day activities.

3. The Usual Suspects 5: after 4 years of gathering unique design images, experiences and exchanges, our precious audience knows what and who we are going for: from Kartell 70th anniversary to the Spanish armada of soft furnishings and lights, going through the Japanese and Brazilians Masters, with a bit of Scandinavian wood and cracking Italian marble stools... We promise that the catalog will be long and exciting to watch, read about and contemplate on.

4. In and Out Salone del Mobile: the city of Milan is boosting and thriving with exhibitions and manifestations. The Art Side of Kartell, 5Vie and Broken Nature will monopolize our attention, plus more private views and independent studio sight seeing. It is all thereto discover and it is all so very important.

Until then, we let you anticipate for our first post, after the 15th of April. Live like a Bauhausian: The Golden Rules to survive, learn and lead a happy life in and out Design.

Is Bauhaus an Anti-movement? The Against-Dominating Design makes it part of anarchy, revolution or just another aesthetic manipulation, only useful to contemporary academic institutions adopting the Collective educational model(?)

Here are the basic guidelines to undesrstand the Bauhaus principles - in design and in life.

1. Get outside the frame. Rules have to be broken in order to push the boundaries.

2. Do not over or underestimate. Everything has the potential to be useful and appreciated. Everything has a role to play.

3. Waste nothing of your materials, therefore your physical or intellectual capital.

4. Delay is not a handicap. Retardation is only a way to do things that goes against speed.

5. We are all equal but not the same.

6. Work in cycles or circles. Abolish hierarchies such as pyramid schemes.

7. Less is more, only when "more" is unimportant or/and unreasonable.

8. Bauhaus is not about architecture, but architecture gave Bauhaus a platform for the beginning. 

9. Work constructively, don't just construct.

10. Work with others, think differently. Learn from others and other disciplines.

11. There are no good or bad students, there are good or bad schools.

12. Rythm and intensity are inseparable from design, they are mathematics. That is the reason they bring out the life of things, so they are essential in design.

13. Design is not only what it looks like, design is how it works.

14. Foundation courses (preliminary courses) define entry to the core program, not exams.

15. If something takes more than 2 gestures to understand, it is design-inadequate.

Salone del Mobile 2019 is on the way and as the first major design fair of the year and we could expect less than a full round of trendsetting events and exhibitions but also global manifestations of immense historical value such as the Fondazione Fiera Milano Archives show at the Triennale: a 98-year retrospective of the oldest and most comprehensive organization when it comes to European production and design. The fair is also supported by a series of parallel explorations of the design world, all equally important, progressing the Beyond-Design era. IN AND OUT WEB SUMMIT 2018: LISBON FUTURAMA, THE EXHIBITION. 3.0

The opportunity of exploring the future possibilities of digitalization in about everything at Web Summit 2018, opened up the spectrum of relevant-to-the -Future(s) thinking zones. Thus said, we talk about the Future all right - possible, transformative, dystopian, real, imaginative Or other - in places of massive human congregation. The Future inside the City (nevertheless the future of a coastal city like Lisbon) is far more than a group of predictions but a series of questions that create a multidimensional  grid of issues, strongly involved in the evolution of the urban lifestyle from now on: a line of problems, conditions, situations, systems and solutions entirely interconnected and therefore inescapable. 

It is all about an exhibition concerning Lisbon-and every other large town or city near the sea or located further in the continent. The themes of ecology and sustainability, innovation and creativity, design and industry, cohesion and justice, finance and economy, education and learning, mobility and transport, freedom and security, humanity and cognition, health and well-being, community and municipality, ethnicity and citizenship, de-systematization and re-systemization, information and intelligence, society and robotics - emerge as topics of both literary but also scientific endeavors. The Future is definitely happening Now, it is impossible for us to ignore as it is more than certain that it is up to us to finally shape It. That is probably the main conclusion, out of the Futures of Lisbon exhibition.

“ What will remain of our conflicts, problems and controversies when the labels that gave them a name are already as forgotten as are those of the past?”…”Looking at the world today from a future time encourages a more open and, above all, more humble attitude when we assess our present, our disputes, our decisions. Looking from afar allows us to focus on the essential and on what we can truly understand about ourselves, the city and urban life.”
